The DVD I have has a special mode called "Fast Play" which is supposed to play a DVD immediately you put it in the player without all of the annoying preparatory stuff. This seems like a good idea I have two outstanding problems with:

1. As far as I can tell everyone in the world wants to watch DVDs in essentially the same way. 99% of the time, they want to put a DVD in the drive and have it play the main contents of the DVD. 1% of the time they want to access a specific scene or special features or something, and need to access the menu. So they only sensible interface is (1) play the movie immediately, or pause the movie ready to play on one click (2) give a one-click access to the main menu. So it seems stupid to give a special proprietary name to the way all DVDs SHOULD work, but you usually refuse to do.

2. It doesn't ACTUALLY play the movie immediately. First it plays a copyright screen (?), and then an explanation of "Disney fastplay", and then an explanation of "Disney Blueray", and then I got bored and went via the main menu. (At least you CAN go via the main menu.)

I admit a DVD which says it's better to play a movie immediately is marginally better than one that doesn't. But I'd prefer one that actually DOES.

I only saw 10 minutes of the Sorcerer's Apprentice before I had to pause it. But my impression is like many similar films, the bits about wizards are pretty good, but the bits about dorky teenagers are tedious.
