My banns are (or should be) published in the register office as of this morning, for anyone who wants to go in and look at their big noticeboard. However, almost nobody ever DOES want to go and look. It's a puzzlement why these -- supposedly being published widely -- have not also been put on the web.

So, to fulfil the spirit of the commitment, since most of the people I know who would know if there WERE any reason I can't get married[1], would be on my friendslist, rather than in my local church, here is the online version.

If anyone knows any reason why I, CARTESIAN DAEMON, born on 10TH OF YOU SHOULD ALREADY KNOW MY BIRTHDAY, PEOPLE, 1982, of the profession of PUSHING THE KEYS IN DIFFERENT ORDERS UNTIL THE BLINKING LIGHTS COME ON IN THE RIGHT ORDER,

Cannot be legally wedded to

LIV, also known as LIVRE D'OR, born on 27TH DECEMBER IN A YEAR I TOTALLY REMEMBER BECAUSE I PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS, of the profession of MAKING CANCER DIE USING LEET NINJA SKILLS LIKE WHOAH,

Please let it be known now. I mean, in actual fact, you have until 29th Feb 2012 to do so. But to be all scrupulous about it, you should probably say something by the end of next month, when the announcement periods are over. But, you know, please DON'T have any such reason :)

And maybe there'll be another announcement with full names and stuff, posted somewhere not directly linked to our dreamwidths.

[1] British legal reason. "You're too cute together to be allowed" or "no, you'll spontaneously merge into a super-critical mass of pedantry" don't count, the time for that have passed. And were working through any jewish legal scruples.

I had thought banns were usually posted much closer to the wedding date (more like one month than nine). That said, I know of no reason, legal or otherwise, why you shouldn't do this.

In spite of doing a lot of thinking and enquiring about this kind of thing, we're not actually sure if this announcement constitutes banns or not. Some sources suggest that it's only banns if you post them in a church, but they may just be default assuming that everybody is Christian. There may be another announcement that we have to make closer to the date of the wedding; this one is a requirement for being able to book a slot at the registry office. You're allowed to do that any time between a year and three weeks before the planned date. We went for earlier rather than later as we wanted to secure a particular date which is significant to us.

You totally win at describing professions. Can you describe mine?

You could write a whole essay about Liv's as well!

I dunno, I kind of like LEET NINJA SKILLZ LIKE WHOAH. Also my job is, while complicated, at least fairly well known. Yours needs quite a lot of background, so it's more suited to an essay. Plus [personal profile] jack writing an essay about your profession has a high chance of being hilarious. The other day he tried to convince me that a pasul mezuzah would be ineffective at repelling vampires...

Exactly...I think LEET NINJA SKILLZ LIKE WHOAH is an awesome description of your profession, even though one could very well write a whole essay about it. Since one could write a whole essay about my profession too, can't I have an awesome Jack-description?

And of course a pasul mezuzah would be ineffective at repelling vampires, why didn't you believe him?

I had always managed to parse the unspaced-and-unpunctuated LJname "livredor" as being a Spanish-or-friend-thereof actor-noun (c.f. "matador", "computador")
