So, it turns out that punts are NOT the most inneficient form of transport ever used on the cam: Cardboard boat race. I was honestly impressed by the way many of the boats made it across the river and back rather than dissolving into shreds the moment any part of them touched the water :)

I think I may have seen some people transporting their mighty craft to the race as I was on my way home from cheder.
