Spare key

On wednesday night, I locked myself out of my flat. I did exactly what I told myself never to do: I was spodding on my phone, I stopped procrastinating suddenly, stood up, put my phone in my pocket, and then forgot to get my wallet and keys because I could feel something in my pocket.

I have a spare set left with someone at work, but it was in the evening. And I had a spare set with my downstairs neighbour, but he couldn't find them. But fortunately I also had a spare set with friends living just round the corner. (Thank you rmc and fanf -- being able to find the keys at all was so much more organised and helpful than most people!)

It's a very strange feeling having my phone but nothing else. I'm nearly self-sufficient as long as the battery lasts. But I can't go home, and I can't cycle anywhere. Or go to a cafe. If I couldn't find the keys I would have had to beg a spare room from a friend for a night, hopefully that would be ok.

But it all got fixed in less than an hour, and then I felt chuffed for having taken care of it easily.

I also remembered to *return* the spare keys to my friends, so I still have them *next* time. And I even attached a key fob with my first name on, so if I ever need them they're easier to tell apart from all the other miscellaneous keys. I spent £1.50 online on a bag of 30 cheap keyfobs for labelling all the keys I don't use everyday, because I think that never again saying "hang on, which keys are these" is worth it.

This basically seems to be working, but I wish I could stop microoptimising things which are already ok, and be that organised about everything else.

Glad it got sorted. After a few near misses and getting locked out of my car I now operate a policy of 'don't go out of anywhere you can't get back into'

Smart! I have about six identical keys and would have to try all of them. (I'm the keeper of spare keys for people and also have a spare house key and keys to my parents'.)
