Went into town to play Ingress for half an hour at lunchtime, no data connection :( Obviously not immediately, no, it was first ten minutes with most actions taking a minute to complete, and me thinking, was it always this slow, is something wrong, and then one would complete instantly and I'd think "it's my imagination". And then it finally gave up, and I rebooted, and still no 3G, and walked back to where I started, still nothing. But was fine when I was back outside work. Same thing last week. Is there just no reception (giffgaff)?

And also, I need to practice getting less attached to plans. I'm always INCREDIBLY RAGE AT BEING THWARTED in proportion to how stupid I feel for planning around some small thing that then goes wrong, not according to how much it matters (usually not much). This is related to, I always get really angry at myself if I'm later than I intended, rather than when it's really inconvenient. Suggestions?

I thought, "now I'm level five, I can score 10k points in a short walk, it will bring me up to level six in only a few short sessions". But obviously if every session is "take 5 minutes to deploy five resonators, then can't do any more", then there's no point :(

As a person who is not very attached to plans, I'm fascinated by the phrase "practice getting less attached to plans." It seems clear to me (well, it would, of course) that not being too attached to plans is a feature, not a bug. I do much better when things don't work out well than folks I know who are on the other end of that spectrum. But I'm still not sure how I would practice it. Do you have concrete thoughts? Do you have, well, plans?

I don't play Ingress, but it does seem like everyone I know does. Good luck with your next session.

Diz has been having problems with giffgaff connectivity in town too.

Maybe think beforehand about what might go wrong and what you'll do then? e.g. "I'll go into town and collect Ingress portals and if that doesn't work out then I'll just have a walk and enjoy the view/see if XYZ is still there/say hi to the river". Having a Plan B to follow might help. (I can see how this is quite a frustrating failure though! It doesn't have an obvious "give up on plan and do something better" point, unlike, say, getting to a shop and discovering it's closed.)

Even on EE I've found it can be occasionally problematic in town, especially if there's a big event on.
