Over the weekend I reset, racked up a couple of the achievements relevant to the early game, and for resetting with several quadrillion cookies baked, got an overall multiplier of several hundred percent which let me catch up with my previous position in about a day. Now making about 100 billion a second base, increased by apocalypse worms.

I started reading Kameron Hurley's Mirror Empire. I kept having to go back to work out which culture is which, and who is who, and which planetary alignments give which magic powers. But now I'm hooked and eager to read more.

I bought some of the graphic novels up for awards this year and "Rat Queens" just arrived.

I feel optimistic after a listless week at work last week.

I had lots of good conversation with Liv about philosophy and economics and careers and stuff.

ghoti(lj-not-dw) baked cookies and they were awesome!

I met highlyeccentric in person. Hi! It was lovely to meet you!

I went running and did press-ups in public in the park with Liv, ghoti, etc.

On Friday we had dinner with Liv's parents, which was lovely (thank you if you're reading!) When I first got to know Liv's family I had a problem of being MUCH TOO QUIET, but now I think I've got a lot better :)

I need to pick up Mirror Empire and finish it. I read the first chapter and wasn't feeling that inspired to continue, but I know it's probably worth the effort.

I enjoyed Mirror Empire, although, at the risk of being mistaken for some sort of Puppy, it is a _bit_ keen on "look at me, time to play with gender again!"

Sure, but isn't that one of the basic problems with the Puppies? That "look at me, time to play with XXX thing I find interesting" is actually a core aesthetic of the genre of SF, and deriding it as message fiction positions you outside the genre?

Indeed. What I mean is, I'm keen enough to see it done well. I just think The Mirror Empire - good as it is otherwise - was a bit ham-handed at times.
