And NTL just texted me to confirm the engineer would be visiting on friday. How non-muppety is that?! :)

This pro-active customer stuff isn't all good. Wait until they make an actual *phonecall*, and wake you up during a lie in. The bastards. Still bitter.

On another note, how have you survived without interweb for so long?

Yeah, I hate *that*. Normally my phone is from someone I know, so when it's a business it's very annoying and disorienting. If I could have a different phone number for that...

Survived? Partly stuffing infobahns down my trousers at work and smuggling them out, and partly by having a mini-web inside my phone :)

well, you can have a different ringtone, presumably... ?

Not easily. If companies had a single phone number, maybe. But they tend to display as 'number withheld', which at least one of my friends also insists on.

I suppose[1] I could have a ringtone for people I *do* know, but I'd still get some calls from real people I didn't previously have a number for.

[1] In fact, I will. Right.

I once set a special ringtone for my sister, and forgot about it. I so rarely get phone calls, and still less from her. When I did get a call from her I was confused about why my phone was playing waltzing matilda instead of oranges and lemons.

I get confused enough remembering what ringtone I have now because it's differen to the old phone.. :)
