I'm being fogged at work. M asked "Having a bad day?" No, it started wonderfully, and then I slept well, with regular water breaks, but then I was late for work and slightly tired...
ie. Last night I went to the carlton for Pippa's bdaythingy. It was great to see Pippa and Edith and Susan and people again. They are very lovely and very cuddly. I'd forgotten how hug-starved I was :) I'm glad Pip managed a good day without being very ill, she deserves it. And was nice to chat to her; normally we talk almost entirely by email or in CTS meetings :)
I was moderately drunk (I remember 4 pints, there may have been another... :)) I was noticeably slurring and wobbly, and chose to walk back, ringing a friend en route, rather than cycle on the road. However, I think I managed to converse coherently and -- with effort -- audably. I think I was about optimal for talking to people; uninhibited enough to join conversations and speak forthrightly unpromptedly and uninhibitedly, but not drunk enough to monopolise or spacing out. Right?
Clare and people are organising a cambridge con in 2007. Go!
M and people were going to oxonmoot. I think I'm right not to try to go two in one year :)
I walked most of the way back with M and people, and caught up with them a bit, and heard more legends about people before my time. At one point we stopped to chew gum, I mean, argue about whether if you jumped in a falling lift you'd hit your head on the ceiling. Eventually we found a convincing rationale (it's like freefall, right? so yes) though this in no way affected our intial certainty that this wouldn't prevent you fatally concatinaring your femurs into your vital internal organs.
