It was actually my birthday on tuesday, which I managed to totally forget. Apparently this is the age when you stop caring exactly what day it's on, a party feels more important than the day, though it was nice to get texts from family then. And some emails and ljs from friends. And one email from Ex=Jane.

X. Youngest player goes first.
All: *looks around, trying not to make insulting assumptions in either direction*
X: Well, it's you or Susan. How old are you?
Me: *Thinks* 24
Susan: Wow, you are older. When's your birthday.
Me: *thinks* Um, today. 24 *precisely*
All: Happy birthday!
Jaq: *sings happy brithday very very quietly*
X: You forgot?
Me: Since I got to twenty four, I stopped caring.
X: You mean, since this morning?
Me: Apparently.
X: Can we get on.
Me: *looks at clock* Not precisely. Yesterday. Nevermind.

That was altered a bit to try to make the funny bits line up. I think it was actually more confusing than that, and the wit wasn't all me. This blog is semi-fictional.

I'M SO SORRY! I meant to send a card but I didn't have your address, and then I meant to email but I got bogged down in post office crap... BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I suspect the point of this post is that you don't care, but um.

And I didn't even remember to use an amusing icon. I FAIL AT LIFE!!!

ROFL! *hug* "So our powers combined will make us some kind of super slayer" isn't amusing? It's great!

OMG, YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD WHO APPRECIATES THAT ICON AND I LOVE YOU.

And I have a obscenely large bowl of cereal, and it's great!

Eh? Admittedly, I did only just read it, but how could anyone not think that was funny? It's the matter-of-factness that does it.

And I have a obscenely large bowl of cereal, and it's great!

Heh, heh, heh.

I don't think the intersection of Stargate fans and Buffy fans and people on my flist is large enough. *sad*

Heh, heh, heh.

*eye-rolls*

Eh? Who isn't? Though, I mean, you don't need to know *much* about them, it'd nearly be funny without knowing.

*hug* Thank you! It didn't occur to me you *would*, but I'm always touched whenever anyone does. I don't care if it's exactly on time or not :)

I realise it's actually a bit doublethink of me -- I think I don't care, but when people do bring it up I quite appreciate it. Sorry, everyone. Thanks to those of you who HB'd me last night.

ah, that's the way to be; happy about it when people are nice to you; not noticing/getting bitter when they aren't.

Well, yes. But I'm sure there's some tension in there; enough people do say 'happy birthday' I come to expect it despite myself.

If I could have been born in such a way that my brithday always fell on the nearest saturday in term I would, but this bloody Gregorian calendar didn't seem to have that option.

You can always declare your birthday to be a movable feast.

stop caring> must be a bit of a generalisation then, cos I certainly haven't, and it's a long while since I was 24.

Happy Birthday anyway.

*shrug* I'm not entirely serious. Certainly not about 24 specifically. But it seems as most people get older they first stop making a big deal of the actual day, and eventually stop thinking about the birthday at all.

Do you not end up forgetting the day?

Happy Birthday anyway.

Thanks *hgu*

Do you not end up forgetting the day?> nope, or not so far anyway, I celebrated on the day, as well as on the day of the party. Not always something big, but I do make a point of it.

Fiar enough. I was thinking of having a little celebration with close friends, but most weren't here, and don't know each other, and I was too busy to think of it.

In retrospect, I should have taken a cake to games evening.

Last year, I was utterly delighted when I didn't notice my birthday until my mother called me. Felt like a real achievement, that did.

But happy birthday to you, anyway.

LOL. Forgetting things is a skill, isn't it?

ooh. I wasn't aware of that rule. Makes sense, though.

Well, I can't remember exactly who told me what rules, etc. I do know everyone doesn't always all shout at the same time. Either because they don't see the need to *announce* losing, or because only the first counts.

Everyone cursing is funnier though.

This seems to be rather upside down. I thought about this, said you were younger then me, since I know your birthday and X's age, then decided to check you were in fact 24 to which you said "no, I'm 25"...which is what confused everyone.

From: [identity profile] numberland.livejournal.com
I just find it amusing that you could have done this without noticing...

Date: 2006-01-13 02:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com
LOL. I knew I couldn't remember the vital confusing point, but decided it was amusing enough to post anyway. I hoped you'd come by and correct.

However, I was sure I didn't say 25. Is it possible I said 24, accidently refering to the previous year? That would make sense, but I couldn't find a way of fitting it into my reconstruction.

You had forgotten at the time too, however 2 other people definitely heard you say 25, so not really any doubt.

I don't remember *that* either. *shrug* It doesn't really matter, I do get mistaken :)

Strangely, I seem to have had to calculate my age whenever asked since I reached 21. Up until that point I knew instinctively...

Anywho, many happy returns...

True, I occasionally had to think. Once over twenty-one, it didn't seem so important exactly *which* early twenties age I was at.

And thanks.

As a general rule of thumb I can go by the years.

ie being born in 80 means that the last digit of the year is the same as the last digit of the age I'll be that year*, then all I need to think about is whether it december or not.

* haven't reached the point where I don't know I'm in my 20s off the top of my head yet...
