The Round

Is it sensible to keep some pot noodles at work? I do end up staying at work sometimes, and it's better to have something reasonably like food, rather than having some crisps.

But for the first time, I went along to the Round. It was fun. I hadn't realised how much I'd missed having some physical musical activity. I did all the dances ok, and sensibly considered mods to two dances.

I'm still a bit shy at meeting large crowds of people I don't know, but Sally and Susan and Matthew and Rachel were lovely as always, and lots of organised girls and bearded or exuberent men I recognised from ceilidhs.

It is never sensible to keep pot noodles, anywhere, ever, for any reason.

I nearly said that myself. :-)

Last time I tried eating pot noodle was on a scout boat trip. They were so horrible we poured them into the river for the fish to have. I don't recall what we ate instead, if at all.

The Environment Agency will come after you at night if you do that sort of thing these days.

They explode pleasingly if you soak them in liquid oxygen and then ignite them.

Doesn't everything?[1]

[1] OK, ok, not *everything*. Oxygen doesn't. Nuetronium doesn't for suitably precise values of 'if'. Everything metabolisable.

More so than other foods? Small particle size, yes?

for any reason.

I don't know about that. I was on a ship in the middle of the North Sea for several days a couple of years ago, and took some variants on pot noodle* then, and it was extremely useful that I had done so, because my alternative for evening meals was to spend 20 pounds on a cold salad.

*ie they were instant food approximations that only required hot water

What's that? It was catered, but only with salad? Or only the salad was vegetarian?

It was a buffet and only the salad was vegetarian.

Ah, that does suck! Normally buffets seem better, because they often have good side dishes which can be combined into a nice meal.

Between the pot noodle and the deep blue sea? How inconvenient.

I have toastie maker, and bread and cheese in the lab. Do you need something that keeps indefinitely?

From: [identity profile] cartesiandaemon.livejournal.com
Pretty much :( I only need it when everything's going wrong, which is exactly when I'm being incapable of any planning. That *should* never happen, but when it does I need something to support me with zero thought...

Could you heat up a can of soup? That would keep.

tinned macaroni cheese. But it's only really nice with added real cheese, so...

... is there a freezer?!

*thinks* A little one. I'd feel guilty keepign something in it for a month.

but that's what freezers are for ...

(you could be the man with the ice cream!)

But if there's 50 people and room in the freezer for for maybe 5 small items, then my share would be one day in ten. It'd be useful if I go shopping and want to store something, but we can't all store anything long term.

Aaah! I had too much slimy m&cheese at school, it was years before I liked cheese that was melted, and I'm still leery of pure melted cheese and macaronicheese. I don't think I could :) Though some other things in a can would work.

Me too. I can't eat the stuff in tins with extra cheese on, or uber-cheesy pizza, or cheese on toast. My digestive system shrivels up and threatens to cause me pain if it sees them. With its, er, secret digestive system eyes.

Hah, same here. And as a veggie I'm always being given cheese. I can just about manage sliced cheese on toast, though, with ketchup on. But eww. Cheese.

The thing is, I actually do like cheese a lot, just am put off by lots of melted stuff. I don't fancy cheese on toast, though have managed trinity's rarebit, but like pizza.

Yes! And they never, ever take things out of the oven before it's become plastic on top, and it's always cheddar, and sometimes mixed with breadcrumbs, so you can't even pull the plastic cheese off without taking half the actual food with it. Ew. And people wonder why I avoid canteens and formal dinners.

also if it's rare ordering pizza for delivery is a possibility? but perhaps that is too much hassle

Oh, um, sure, that would make sense. A bit of a treat even.

The trouble is, if I've accepted I'm going to work late, I'll go home for to rest my eyes for half an hour and eat something. And then work at home as often as not. But occasionally I fall into the trap of thinking it'll be done in 15 minutes for twenty straight hours, and I can't stop to get a realistic view or I'll freak out. So I need that stopgap.

If you want something reasonably like food, do not choose pot noodles. Crisps are closer to food.

Date: 2006-03-17 02:46 pm (UTC)

Contents of pot noodles:
-Wheaty stuff
-MSG
-Oil
-Water

Contents of crisps and a glass of water:
-Potatoey stuff
-MSG
-Oil
-Water

If you're going to substitute something for crisps, it ought to be something slightly more different, e.g. toast!

Pot noodles are actually okay, but I would probably keep some cereal and longlife milk :)

I like pot noodles and think they are yummy. I'm not entirely sure they are food, though.

Pot noodles aren't reasonably like food, are they?
If you have somewhere to heat things, Baxter's do a good range of hefty soups in cans with pull-ring tops.

Physical musical activity :)
