I'm happy: I think I've got the hang of it, and the system -- while I don't know how it compares to other LARP systems -- seems pretty good in absolute, and hitting people with swords is fun -- fencing actually comes in handy, woop!

Though I feel kind of bad that everything I did went wrong. Which isn't a big deal, it's only LARP, and isn't anyone's fault including mine, but all the time I seem to have conversations like:

Someone else: What are you doing here?
My character: [Paraphrases ref's brief, typically "You're a guard patrolling here for blah."]
Someone else: Why the hell are you doing that? Who sent you?
My character: Uh, [adlib]
Someone else: Gah! All guardsmen seem to be idiots.
Me: What am I supposed to do? If I adlib, it's false in character. If I go and ask a ref every question I think my NPC would know the answer to, I'll hold the game up 5 minutes a time. I read all the rules, and was given a one-line description with no motivation, but can't know what's normal in this situation, and taking cues from people who've played before just makes it worse. I'm sorry!

But it was overall good and I will come back next time and do it right. And hopefully develop a character this week for the interactive. And fight chessypig with rubber swords any time the opportunity presents itself :)

On saturday, I went to "Sonicdrift's" to watch Starwars 456. It's really cool to see nearly all of them together in order. I wasn't as wowed as I wish I were -- I've just seen snippets and homages so much the original lost punch -- but they really are very good. EmpSB really has a sense of despair at the end, and the others of triumph!

Unfortunately I was in a bit of a bad mood all day. I don't know if people noticed, but I'm sorry if I seemed a bit off, either too quiet, snippy or later on too domineering?

But it was nice to see everyone -- Becky had a lovely black summer dress -- and to drink mead, and to have good pasta bake -- I must try Homepride sauce on one of my bakes that has things in in addition to pasta :), I would have tomorrow, but see below.

On sunday, Tim, Rachel and Susan came round for gluten free dinner and firefly, and it was very nice to see all of them. On the whole I think it was a success, though I don't think I persuded Tim and Rachel to the virtues of either mead or Firefly. And the conversation is always a bit difficult to keep going between people who don't know each other well, I hope everyone was entertained.

I cooked a brocoli, chick pea, and mushroom bake. It was alright -- and everyone praised it[1] -- but not very inspiring. I risked using a sauce (Dolmio Lasagne) that I hadn't before, that might not have been most appropriate, and perhaps could have made the cheese topping chunkier. And I wasn't able to get any really good sidedishes, so approximated with an improvised salad and crisps.

[1] Thank you.

On the second sunday, ie. bank holiday monday, some Jehovas witnesses came round and we had a chat about how the scientific evidence rubishes evolution and carbon dating[1].

[1] I am not yet convinced.

Mead Order

I am about to order a couple of boxes of mead for myself and for the Veizla from Moniack. If anyone would like me to add one or more bottles to my order for them and save delivery cost, please comment below. I'd rather just get mead, not anything else, to avoid much adding up.

It will cost less than £6/bottle, exactly how much depending on how much I order.

I will try to put a note on CURS/Assassins wiki, for the benefit of people who may pine for Meadith :) Anywhere else?

I aim to place the order on monday (8th).

I assume it goes without saying that if you ask for a couple of bottles I will give them to you next time I see you, and if you want many, you might as well order them yourself would have to pick them up.
