Once a northerner, always a northerner. Despite having lost most of the accent I had I'm told I'm still recognisably northern. Especially when on the phone to my mum, when I revert completely and sound like I should wear a flat cap and keep ferrets.

Never. You're going to mark time making minor improvements until something more urgent comes along, and then relegate this to "soon" and then "good enough" and then "finished"[2] and neither you nor anyone else will bother to confirm it because it's too boring. Do you have any other dreams I can crush?[3]

This spreadsheet is, unfortunately, the only thing I have to do today. I've gt a definite end point, and the results will be used so I can't just fudge it all and make things up. The mind-numbing tedium is that having worked out what I want to do, I have to repeat that 48 times, and given that one step requires me to judge something off a graph by eye there's no easy way of automation.

So I'm going to sit here with my hopes crushed and sulk and possibly make many LJ comments until it is done.

But I never was a Northerner. It seems to be some unto the seventh generation, mark of cain type thing. My accent occasionally has Yorkshire shine through it, but unfortunately I can't do it on demand, only by talking to someone really yorkshire and getting into the midset, else I would have been a lot more popular at the Tolkien silly-sketches audition.

Ah. Bummer. Make the 48 estimates in a look, alt-tab, type, alt-tab, repeat way, and then use a macro of some sort? Realise that no-one you care about will die do to bad estimates and make them up? Waste time until the job is more urgent for someone else's life than yours and say "Well, you do it if you think you can do it any better!"? Hide your head in LJ and hope it'll go away?

I've just realised the thing I have been doing on (so far) 13 samples out of 48 is probably not actually the correct estimate to make. Trouble is that I can't think of a better way to do that doesn't involve a huge amount more work such that it will take me several days to do the whole thing and I'll still go insane.

No one will die if I get it wrong, but it's me who'll end up using the data I do get, and so if I fudge it all I'll know when I try and use it.

I'm going to see if I have my minidisc player anywhere to make things a bit less tedious...

People don't generally think I'm Northern, but it's in my blood. Maybe "Once a Northerner, always a Northerner unless you go and live dahn Sarf for 17.5 years"?
