Doh!

Work, Veizla, Spring Cleaning, CTS, and social life are all under control, and term has just started again with many fun social things, so my life is exactly on taget; and what do I do? Schedule something every night this week and stay up till 1 playing penultima followed by two hours of fanfic and answering emails/notifications. Oops :)

Agh!

And then I couldn't sleep *either*.

Brain: Ooh, I just thought of another good penultima rule.
Me: Oh no. Go to sleep already.
Brain: I should write it down, else I won't know if I remember it.
Me: Please?
Brain: But it needs a name.
Me: HOVERCRAFT! Happy? Can I sleep now?
Braim: Ooh, that's a good one. I just thought of another rule!
Me: Gngh.
Brain: And don't forget, tomorrow we have to [list of stuff categorised into three different text files, plus write a test bed for the code I wrote last week].
Me: I wrote it down. I won't.
Brain: But did you remember it all? TOOTHPASTE! is something also that we have to buy next shopping.
Me: I got that.
Brain: Mushrooms? Gluten-free-"pasta"-suace?
Me: Yes. Yes. Yes. I *checked*.
Brain: Oh. Ok.
*pause*
Me: Can I sleep now?
*pause*
Brain: I thought of something else

Now -- I'm fortunate that I've so rarely found my brain nonfunctioning and also unable to sleep. I don't habitually drink coffee immediately in the morning, nor multiple cups, but I think I need it today.

Is there a word that collectively refers to homonyms and homophones, etc, and if possible also pseudonyms :) other than "homonym"?

Is there a word that refers to words typed with the same letters on a phone keypad, like "me" and "of" and "dtaj" and "fuck"[1]?

I propose:

Telenym.
Phononym.
Buttononym.

The second is a pun on homophone[2]. The last should have a greek -- or at least foreign -- word for button or keypad instead. Can you suggests a good stem there? Or any other suggestions?

Is there an equivalent of pseudonym, nom-de-plume, anonym, pseudogyny, acronym or cognomen for an online name, handle, tag, screenname, and username?

Pseudonym nearly covers it, but a pseudonym is often (though by no means necessarily) anonymous. Can we revive cognomen, please? Or coin a new word. The list at the end are fine as words, but I find them insufficient because they don't have "nym" in as all names should :)

[1] I really love this new form of bowdlerisation. Phononym will also refer to words *formed* this way, such as "book" meaning "cool" and the swearwords produced!

[2] Are universal definition of homonym, etc? Wikipedia says:

Homograph -- Words spelled the same and different in meaning. ()
Homophone -- Words pronounced the same but different in meaning
Homonym -- One or more of the above. Some people say restricted to having a different root[3].
Heteronym -- annoyingly, nearly a subset of homonym! :)

But makes it clear many people/dictionaries changes those 'or's to 'ands', add restrictions that the words must be the same or different in spelling/pronunciation/meaning/root as well.

Do linguists have any standard use, or official use and colloquial use, or can I go on using wikipedia's definitions which fit with my conception, and occasionally say things like "A true homonym" for a homonym with different spelling and pronunciation, or perhaps for one with truly different roots?

[3] Or at least different route from the same original root :)

Hmm, my formatting is odd, but we'll live with it.

Apropos to my sleepyness my ideas from last night were not amazing, but all were fairly good. A wonderful quote on the subject from The Universe of Discourse is:
The next morning I remembered nothing but that I had had a "clever" inspiration while guzzling whisky from the bottle. "Oh, no," I muttered, "What did I do?" And I went to the computer to see what damage I had wrought. I called up the problematic part of the program, and regarded my alcohol-inspired solution. There was a clear and detailed comment explaining the solution, and as I read the code, my surprise grew. "Hey," I said, astonished, "it really was clever." And then I saw the comment at the very end of the clever section: "Told you so."

I don't know what to conclude from this, except perhaps that I should have spent more of my life drinking whiskey. I did try bringing a flask with me to work every day for a while, about fifteen years ago, but I don't remember any noteworthy outcome. But it certainly wasn't a disaster. Still, a lot of people report major problems with this strategy, so it's hard to know what to make of my experience.
One's subconcious is sometimes witty. And sometimes effective.

Coincidently, recently, I've got the hang of commenting my code well! Cool.

That blog, by Mark Dominus, is very intriguing. I think fanf or senji linked to it, but every few days he has something to say about something obscure but relevent to every day life, that always makes me think. If I had the time it's a good example of the sort of discourse I would like to output.
