Serenity

Tonight I went to Mobbsy's to view Serenity. His projector is indeed fun -- the culmination of audiovideoness :) -- I think I should equip myself.

I did enjoy it very much, though not nearly as much as the first time, in contrast to the series which I've already seen several times, and enjoyed nearly as much each time -- I deduce enjoyment in the film derives from surprises and suspense. For instance, the ending was grim because you genuinely didn't know what was going to happen, but when you do, it's less so.

On friday people came round to watch more firefly, and I made dinner[1], which people said[2] they enjoyed.

On saturday I went to Shiela. This was very very strange, really reminiscent of poohsoc, but approaching it from another way. What was most weird (compared to, eg., random cries of god save the king, cancer, death circus, charlie and the chocolate factory read out in a variety of voices, the Augustus Gloop pipe song sung to the tune of Jerusalem) was there were freshers who were even more psychotic! :)

On sunday a few of us went to see Serenity. Squee. Now, my obsessive strategy of tagging posts with specific (eg. "Firefly, ep. 3") as well as general (eg. DVD reviews) tags pays off, for I was instantly able to find a link to my comments from the last time I saw it, for the benefit of people who've seen it for the first time this weekend:

Oops. I *thought* I was finally on the round mailing list, but apparently not. OK, will email now.

I think I will be ceilidhing on sat (8.00-11.00 sat Parkside, just off parker's piece http://www.cam.ac.uk/societies/round/ceilidh.htm).

So unfortunately Serenity can't happen then. I'm sorry. If people want, we could go on sunday or next week.

I propose:

(7) On friday, people will come round for more firefly DVDs.
(8) On saturday evening, I will see Serenity at Vue.

Though I could reverse these if people preferred. I apologise to anyone who feels this is an overload, but I don't think I can wait longer to see the film again, and I already arranged the viewing.

On friday, I'll plan for people about 7ish but will be in preparing some sort of food before that, so feel free to come when you finish work if earlier.

Times for saturday aren't decided until wednesday, so I'll decide when then if people want to come, but I'll intend early evening to allow food after.

It was in fact Serenity. Was that a spoiler? :)

OK, first part of the review. Here I deal with general things only and the trip itself. If you want to form your own impressions, avoid, but it should be free of any plot spoilers except perhaps the most incidental, so non-devotees should be ok.

Who else is also going to see probably Serenity tonight? Are everyone's pairs of tickets accounted for?

What I also did:

* Printed an Empire Voucher and turned it into two free tickets to a preview of a mystery film on monday 19th. Liz's friends hypothesise this to be Serenity (the firefly film). You may wish to do the same. They didn't check who I was, so if you look sufficiently different with and without glasses you could take 2+ vouchers :)

What I'm doing:

* Going home. Massive comment torrent will pause, unless you can talk to each other.
* Finishing Recursive Herbology.
* Putting a new gel inner tube on my bike
